Agus River Basin Development

Agus no. 1 Dam   Agus no. 2 Dam   Agus no. 4 Dam   Agus no. 5 Dam   Agus no. 7 Dam

The development of Agus River started in 1950 through the authorization of President Elpidio Quirino to tap and harness the Maria Cristina Falls for hydropower development and potable water supply.  Aside from the Maria Cristina Hydro Electric Plant (Agus VI), the National Power Corporation envisioned a series of six hydroelectric plants along the mighty Agus River.  The construction of Agus Hydroelectric Plant Nos. 1, 4 and 7 simultaneously started between January to July 1979, Agus No. 2 in May 1975 and Agus No. 5 in October 1980.  Only the Agus No. 3 project has yet to start to date.

Agus No. 6 Dam

Of all the dams that were built along Agus River, Agus No. 6 or Maria Cristina Falls was the first to be developed, because its site is the most feasible; it is the most economical/with least cost to construct and is the most proximate to the expected consumers.  The construction started in 1950 as authorized by President Elpidio Quirino.  The rockfill dam rests on a concrete gravity foundation, with a height of 12.50 m. and a crest length of 67 m..  It can generate power of about 200 MW.
